Private Rented Sector Landlord Ombudsman to launch after database rollout

A new PRS Landlord Ombudsman will be established as part of Phase 2 of the Renters' Rights Act reforms. All private landlords will be required to join. The ombudsman will provide free, binding dispute resolution for tenants, settling complaints without costly court proceedings.

The PRS Landlord Ombudsman will handle complaints about landlord conduct, standards, and service. Decisions will be binding.

This is intended to complement, not replace, existing court processes.

Action required

No immediate action. The ombudsman launch date has not yet been confirmed. Begin reviewing your complaints handling processes to ensure they are robust.
