PRS Property Portal: Mandatory Registration Date TBC

SourceMHCLG

The Private Rented Sector Property Portal was launched in beta in December 2025. Mandatory registration for all private landlords will be required under the Renters Rights Act 2025 once a commencement order is made. The mandatory date has not yet been confirmed.

The Private Rented Sector Property Portal was introduced under the Renters' Rights Act 2025. The portal requires landlords to register their personal details, all rental property addresses, and confirm compliance with key obligations including gas safety, electrical safety and EPC requirements.

The beta phase launched in December 2025. Mandatory registration will be brought into force by a separate commencement order — the date has not yet been confirmed by the government. Estimates suggest mandatory registration will be required from late 2026.

Landlords who register early will avoid last-minute bottlenecks when the mandatory date is set. The portal will be linked to local authority enforcement systems.

Action required

Register on the Property Portal during the beta phase at landlord.gov.uk. Early registration will streamline compliance when mandatory registration takes effect. Monitor landlordinsights.co.uk for the commencement date announcement.
