Selective Licensing: Tower Hamlets Scheme Renewed

Tower Hamlets renewed and expanded its selective licensing scheme from November 2024, covering a larger proportion of the borough. All privately rented properties in designated areas require a licence.

Tower Hamlets Council renewed its selective licensing scheme for a further five-year period from November 2024. The renewed scheme covers a larger proportion of the borough than its predecessor.

All privately rented dwellings in designated areas require a licence. The application process includes a fit and proper person assessment, current safety certificates, and payment of the applicable fee.

Unlicensed letting carries civil penalties of up to 30,000 and publication on the national database of rogue landlords and letting agents. Rent Repayment Orders can also be sought by tenants.
