Sourcegov.wales

The Welsh Government has published guidance for landlords on the Renting Homes (Miscellaneous Amendments) (Wales) Regulations 2026. The regulations make it unlawful for a landlord to refuse to let to, or to treat less favourably, a contract-holder because they have children or because they are in receipt of welfare benefits.

Action required

Welsh landlords must review their tenant selection criteria immediately. Any policy or practice that screens out applicants with children or on benefits is now unlawful. Existing tenancy terms should also be reviewed for indirect discrimination.
